Earlier this month, Mother Goose, portrayed by Speake Pre-K Lead Teacher Ginger Layman Davis, entertained children at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park and Museum by reading some of her well-known nursery rhymes like “Jack be Nimble,” “Pat-a-cake,” “Rub-a-dub-dub,” and “The Butcher, the Baker, the Candlestick Maker.”

As per the Poetry Foundation, a Chicago-based charity that promotes poetry across America, Mother Goose is a mythical character credited with creating numerous nursery rhymes, songs, and stories collected over hundreds of years.

The staff at Oakville Museum mentioned that families had a great time enjoying Mother Goose’s charming storytelling while learning about how candles used to be essential in daily life. They also explored the history behind candle making and even got to try dipping candles themselves, which they left to dry before taking home.

“There were lots of smiles, a little melted wax, and many proud candle makers headed home with their creations. Thank you, Mrs. Ginger, for sharing your talents and making history so much fun,” the museum said.
