As we approach 2026, Costco is making moves to set up new locations in Ontario.

The first one expected to open is near the Oakville and Burlington border.

This month, demolition crews started tearing down some existing buildings to pave the way for a Costco on Wyecroft Road, close to Burloak Drive and the QEW. The store will take over an old plaza.

The long-awaited opening of this retail giant is projected for 2027, which is later than initially planned.

Reports suggest that the original idea to convert existing stores into a Costco was abandoned in favor of constructing a brand-new building.

The design includes a shopping area spanning 15,662.6 square meters, with entrances from Wyecroft Road and RioCan Boulevard leading into a parking lot.

The upcoming store will carry all the usual sections like food, clothing, electronics, and computers that Costco is famous for.

It will also offer more than 1,000 surface parking spots, including some underground. Sixteen spots above ground will be designated for disabled parking along with another six underground. Cyclists can use one of the 16 available bike racks as well.

A gas station is planned for the northwest corner of the site near the South Service Road West and RioCan Boulevard intersection as part of this project.

Generally speaking, Costco keeps future locations under wraps until they are about to open; however, there’s enough public information showing that a second location – at the Caledon and Brampton border – is under serious consideration.

Developers aim to make this large wholesale warehouse the main attraction in a plaza proposed for the northwest corner of Mayfield Road and Creditview Road in Caledon, just north of Brampton’s boundary.

Glen Schnarr and Associates Inc. has resubmitted an application for site plan approval to Caledon on behalf of property owner 12100 Creditview Developments Limited.

This new submission addresses issues previously raised by town planners regarding their original site plan application.

If everything goes according to plan, this Costco would cater to several neighborhoods including Brampton-Ontario’s third-largest city-as well as residents from Halton Hills, Orangeville and surrounding areas within Caledon who need easy access to bulk shopping.

Early documents indicate that this plaza could host not only a Costco but also its gas station along with FreshCo, McDonald’s, Shoppers Drugmart plus various other retail outlets along with ample parking space.

This current proposal marks another attempt to establish a Costco in this region.

A development plan featuring a Costco was proposed back in 2022 but faced rejection from local officials due to worries about whether infrastructure could support such an extensive project on that vacant lot.

However, opinions have shifted as population growth continues in the area; road expansions are underway alongside demands from residents wanting shopping options closer to home instead of having long drives elsewhere.

Speculation about Costco coming to Caledon has been circulating online for nearly a year now with most commenters expressing excitement about it.
“I think this is a perfect spot,” one commenter said on Reddit. “This is a growing area, and the drive to any other Costco is a long one. You can guarantee the place will always be busy.”

Those involved with development projects have pointed out that while plans are moving forward nothing’s set in stone yet since several approvals still need approval from local authorities along with ensuring that Walmart remains committed towards seeing it through together with them too!

No specific timeline has been established yet but earlier forecasts suggest aiming towards late 2027 or early 2028 seems realistic if everything aligns correctly so customers might finally step inside their new local store!
