The 37th annual Oakville Indian Mounds Festival, one of the biggest events in Lawrence County, happened last weekend during two beautiful spring days.
On Friday, the Oakville Museum complex, which features two ancient ceremonial mounds, welcomed busloads of school kids from around the area. On Saturday, the festival opened its doors to everyone.
Over the course of two days, attendees got to enjoy Native American music, drumming, and dancing. They also participated in activities like spear throwing, canoe rides, and face painting.
Guests could take part in hands-on educational experiences such as living history workshops, plant and herb walking tours, and flintknapping demonstrations.
The museum’s extensive collection of Native American artifacts was on display for everyone to explore throughout the weekend.
