A resident from Mississauga is facing charges for impaired driving and dangerous operation after an SUV struck a pedestrian in the small town of Delhi, Ontario, on Monday morning.
The Ontario Provincial Police reported that the pedestrian, who was hit on Church Street East, did not claim any injuries following the incident, which happened just before 8:30 a. m. in this town located southwest of Brantford.
As per police accounts, the SUV was traveling along Church Street East when it veered off the road and hit the pedestrian. The driver then left the scene in the vehicle, according to police.
Officers later found the SUV on Windham Road 12, just outside of Delhi. The driver was taken into custody without any issues, police noted.
A 39-year-old individual from Mississauga faces several charges:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
Failure to stop after accident.
Dangerous operation.
Drive – handheld communication device. The accused’s gender has not been disclosed by police and is set to appear in Ontario Court in Simcoe on May 12.
