An Ontario man has been charged after police discovered his handgun in Mississauga, roughly 200 kilometers away from where he lives.
On January 15, Peel Regional Police contacted Huron County Ontario Provincial Police to report that a handgun registered to a resident of Huron East had been found in Mississauga.
Huron East is situated in southwestern Ontario along the shores of Lake Huron.
The OPP did not disclose the specific location within Mississauga where the firearm was recovered or the circumstances surrounding its discovery by Peel police.
Following their investigation, authorities identified the gun owner and filed charges against him.
A 52-year-old man from Huron East is facing charges for:
Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition. Failure to report a lost firearm or weapon.
The accused has been processed and released from custody, with a court date set for March 16 in Goderich, according to police.
