A man, aged 35, lost his life after a single-vehicle accident on Highway 401 in Mississauga, according to provincial police.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sgt. Kerry Schmidt reported that the incident took place near Winston Churchill Boulevard just before 6 a. m. on Friday.
Initially, police stated it was a multi-vehicle crash; however, Schmidt later clarified that only one vehicle was involved.
“A pickup truck collided with the crash cushion, the end treatment that separates the express from the collector lanes. That vehicle was then redirected into the express lanes where it came to a rest,” he said.
The driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later passed away. Initially, police reported he was 36 years old but later corrected it to 35.
The eastbound express lanes of the highway are closed from approaching Mississauga Road to Mavis Road. The OPP indicated that this area is expected to reopen between noon and 1 p. m.
