Two men are facing charges after police discovered a $51,000 forklift that had been stolen from a Mississauga site was being sold this week in a small Ontario town.

Perth County Ontario Provincial Police reported that they tracked down the stolen industrial vehicle to an address in Listowel, which is about 140 kilometres northwest of Mississauga, on Tuesday.

Investigators stated that the forklift, taken earlier from a Mississauga location, was in the process of being sold when they pinpointed its whereabouts.

Officers from the Huron-Perth Community Street Crimes Unit, with help from Perth County OPP, carried out a search warrant at the property where the forklift was found, according to a news release issued by police on Wednesday.

The authorities seized $11,450 in cash and also recovered the forklift, returning it to its rightful owner.

A 48-year-old man from North Perth is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and trafficking stolen property.

A 60-year-old man from Cambridge faces charges for trafficking stolen property.

Both individuals have been released from custody and are set to appear in Ontario Court in Stratford on Sept. 14, according to police.

OPP mentioned that this investigation “highlights the excellent cooperation between our Community Street Crimes Unit and frontline members.”
