York Regional Police report that four men have been arrested and a fifth suspect is still on the run after a theft investigation in Markham.

On Sunday, July 19, 2026, around 7:45 p. m., officers were called to a business near Fairburn Drive and Highway 7 following reports of several individuals loading power tools into shopping carts. Loss prevention staff recognized these individuals from earlier thefts and kept an eye on them as they allegedly left the store without paying.

According to police, the suspects began putting the stolen items into a vehicle when officers arrived. As police tried to block the vehicle, it hit a police cruiser, prompting all five suspects to flee on foot. After a short chase on foot, officers managed to arrest four of the suspects while one remains at large.

No details about the missing suspect have been shared.

All of the stolen goods were recovered at the scene.

The arrested individuals are Mohit Sharma, 36, with no fixed address; Manpreet Singh, 30, from Brampton; Vishavjeet Singh, 22, from Mississauga; and Sukhinder Rakhra, 43, from Kitchener. They face multiple charges including theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, among others. Police also pointed out that all four men were already under separate release orders for unrelated issues at the time of their arrests.

Please note that these allegations have not been proven in court

The investigation is ongoing and York Regional Police encourage anyone with information to reach out to the #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau.
