York Regional Police (YRP) report that three men from Toronto have been charged after a suspected kidnapping scheme targeting an individual in Markham was uncovered. This plan reportedly started with a tracking device secretly placed on a vehicle.
The investigation kicked off on May 21, when officers were alerted to a suspicious situation near Masseyfield Gate and Steeles Avenue.
Authorities say that one of the suspects had attached a tracking device to a parked car and that the person connected to this vehicle was believed to be the intended target of the kidnapping. Detectives began their inquiry and identified a suspect vehicle linked to the case.
The following day, May 22, investigators spotted the same suspect vehicle returning to the plaza. Officers surrounded it, but two suspects ran away on foot. After a short chase, both were apprehended.
During their arrest, police reported seizing some suspected fentanyl along with Canadian currency.
