Celebrate Chinese New Year Events in Markham and York Region

Year of the Horse brings major Chinese New Year celebrations across York Region.

Chinese New Year festivities for the Year of the Horse are happening throughout Markham and York Region this month. Most events are free and open to everyone, with celebrations taking place in Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Newmarket.

Junior Chinese New Year Market

Date and time: Feb. 7, 1:30 to 5 p. m.

Location: Milliken Mills Community Centre, 7600 Kennedy Rd., Markham.

This market is run by youth and features 25 young entrepreneurs along with craft tables and a lucky draw. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the Gibson Food Bank.

Chinese New Year Fair at Langham Square

Date and time: Feb. 14 and 15, 11 a. m. to 6:30 p. m.

Location: Langham Square, 8339 Kennedy Rd., Markham.

This fair returns for its second year, bringing together local vendors, community groups, and cultural booths for a traditional market-style celebration.

First Markham Place Lunar New Year Celebrations

Dates & Times:

• Feb. 16 – Countdown to Chinese New Year’s Eve at 10:30 p. m.

• Feb. 18 – God of Fortune appearance from 2 to 4 p. m.

Location: First Markham Place, 3255 Highway 7 E., Markham.

The First Markham Place will host several Lunar New Year events including a late-night countdown for the new year as well as an appearance by the God of Fortune during the day who will offer symbolic blessings and good luck.

Pacific Mall Chinese New Year Celebration

Date and time: Feb. 21, from 1 to 4 p. m. & Feb. 22 from 1 to 5 p. m.

Location: Pacific Mall, 4300 Steeles Ave E., Markham.</P

This event features a grand opening ceremony along with lion dances and cultural performances over the weekend. There will also be an international stage celebration on Feb.28.</P

Markham Temple Fair</P

Date and time: Feb.21and22 from10a. m. to8 p. m.</P

Location : New Kennedy Square ,8360Kennedy Rd. , Mark ham.</P

The two-day temple fair brings back traditional Chinese New Year celebrations with lion dances , performances , food , and cultural activities.</ P

Hillcrest Mall Lunar New Year Celebration</P

Dateandtime : Feb.7 ,11a. m. to4 p. m.</ P

Location : Hillcrest Mall ,9350 Yonge St., Richmond Hill.

Acommunity-focusedcelebration featuringatraditionaleyedottingceremony , choiranddrumperformances , calligraphy , lanternriddlesandaqipaoshowcase.

Vaughan Mills Lunar New Year Celebration

Dateandtime : Feb.13to17. Daytimeprogramming.

Location : Vaughan Mills Discover Court ,1Bass Pro Mills Dr., Vaughan.
