York Regional Police are looking for witnesses after a cyclist struck a pickup truck in East Gwillimbury – located just north of Newmarket – Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the area of Doane Road, east of Warden Avenue, following reports of a collision involving a dump truck and cyclist traveling in opposite directions around noon.

In an update on Friday, police confirmed that the vehicle involved was a Ford F-350 pickup truck.

The cyclist, who is from Markham and aged 58, was taken to the hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries as stated in a news release Thursday. The driver of the truck stayed at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are requesting anyone who was nearby or anyone who might have dashcam footage of the incident to get in touch with investigators.
