2026 Canadian Race Scheduled for Aug. 14-16

On September 3, Green Savoree Toronto ULC, the City of Markham, and INDYCAR revealed that the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy will be moving to a new location in 2026 as part of a multiyear agreement. Organized by Green Savoree Toronto ULC, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES will race on an exciting new street circuit located in Markham from August 14-16, 2026.

Markham, Ontario, borders Toronto’s northeastern edge and is part of York Region, which is rapidly expanding with a population exceeding 1.25 million residents (photo below). The event will take place in Markham Centre, the city’s lively downtown area that hosts many Canadian corporate offices, the York University Markham Campus, and the famous Markham Pan Am Centre – a major venue during the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.

“We couldn’t be happier to see NTT INDYCAR SERIES racing continue its rich tradition in Ontario,” said Penske Entertainment President and CEO Mark Miles. “Markham is an evolving and diverse city that will provide an excellent stage for our thrilling wheel-to-wheel racing. I want to thank Mayor Frank Scarpitti for this exciting new partnership and Jeff Atkinson along with his team at Green Savoree Toronto for their leadership. It’s essential for INDYCAR to connect with our fans in Canada, and we’re eager for this new chapter to kick off next year.”

With great regional access via two major 400-series highways, Unionville GO Station, and the VIVA Rapid Transit system, the new circuit in Markham is perfectly positioned to welcome fans from across Southern Ontario and beyond. The Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham is set to be the largest sports and cultural event ever held in York Region’s history. The occasion is expected to attract over 140,000 attendees throughout the three-day weekend while generating tens of millions in economic activity through sports tourism, hospitality services, and event-related business.

“We’re thrilled to bring the exhilarating experience of INDYCAR SERIES racing onto our streets come 2026,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “We are proud to host this world-class event within our community. Thanks go out to Green Savoree Toronto, Penske Entertainment Corp., NTT INDYCAR SERIES, the Ontario Honda Dealers Association, and the Province of Ontario for trusting us with this opportunity. Markham is eager to build upon its strong sports legacy while providing a new home where this beloved summer tradition can flourish. I’m incredibly proud of our team here at the City of Markham for making this happen so quickly.”

Minister of Sport Neil Lumsden stated: “The Indy stands as one of North America’s top motorsport events and has been integral to Ontario’s events calendar for nearly four decades now. Sports tourism plays a vital role in driving economic growth across our province; I’m delighted that this iconic event will continue calling Ontario home-thank you City of Markham for helping usher in this new chapter. This race will keep boosting tourism while strengthening Ontario’s image as a premier destination for top-tier sporting events.”

Well-known track designer Tony Cotman from NZR Consulting has overseen design efforts on this temporary circuit featuring a layout with twelve turns across 2.19 miles (3.52 km), including dual pit lanes along with thrilling straight sections plus challenging technical areas. The City of Markham has already initiated preliminary work on both track construction as well as festival site development alongside Metrolinx plus other local partners.

“Today we’re pleased to announce a multi-year deal with the City of Markham establishing it as home base for this motorsport tradition,” remarked Jeff Atkinson president overseeing operations at Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham.“We anticipate enjoying long-term success partnering closely together alongside Mayor Frank Scarpitti’s administration , the city council , and INDYCAR. Our inaugural festival marking return Of Indycars To An Active Circuit since ’86 promises retaining historical significance whilst expanding fan engagement! We eagerly await welcoming everyone including racers & teams into beautiful downtown markam during august!”
