Reform UK has already confirmed it would stand in the election

This potential by-election is coming up before another one at Nottingham City Council, which was triggered due to a councillor’s poor attendance. Bassetlaw District Council has announced that Councillor Gary Dinsdale has resigned from his position as the Conservative councillor for the East Markham ward. The Nottingham Post tried to get a comment from Mr. Dinsdale about his resignation but couldn’t reach him. Records indicate he attended only two out of nine possible meetings so far this year. Councillors who miss all meetings over six months can be disqualified from their role, but Mr. Dinsdale hadn’t hit that mark, and his reason for leaving remains unclear. His departure opens the door for a by-election if at least two registered voters from the East Markham ward request one in writing to Bassetlaw’s monitoring officer. East Markham village, located within Bassetlaw and Newark parliamentary constituency areas, traditionally elects a Conservative district councillor. However, Reform UK has stated they will contest this ward for the first time. A spokesperson mentioned: “Reform will 100% be standing in the election.” “From the cake tax to solar farms, rural communities in East Markham have been let down by Labour-run Bassetlaw District Council. Only Reform can beat them and hold the Bassetlaw administration to account.” ()
