SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A serious accident is being looked into Thursday in Seminole County, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers mentioned that the incident took place on Markham Woods Road and Enclave Cove close to Heathrow.

According to the FHP, a driver in a 2009 Cadillac CTS went off the road, spun into some trees, and crashed into one of them. The driver was declared dead at the scene.

FHP has closed roads in the area while they investigate further.

No additional details were shared.

It was a shocking way to start the new year for Kyle Williamson and his wife, who live nearby. They saw the tragic crash just steps from their front door.

“We ran out here, and it was obvious that the gentleman had passed. He was gone immediately, and then, there was a fire,” said Kyle Williamson.

The couple provided surveillance footage to News 6 showing the car speeding past their neighborhood before crashing into a tree around 9:46 a.m.

“My wife was out walking the dogs when she came running in saying there was another accident,” Williamson stated. “We had one a couple of years back at this same spot where she had to take someone to the hospital. She ran inside shouting, ‘Dial 911.’”

Williamson believes incidents like this happen way too often along this part of the road.

“I think this curve is strange. It’s a zone for 45 mph, but it comes up fast,” Williamson commented. “And it’s scary because elementary and middle schools are just around the corner.”

Troopers indicated that speed played a role in this accident . James Shelton , who bikes daily along Markham Woods Road , says he sees speeding drivers constantly .

“I notice cars going well over th e speed limit , sometimes even 10-20 (mph) over,” Shelton remarked , who also lives near Markham Woods Road . “It feels like they’re racing to make up time.”

Both neighbors express hope that more measures can be taken to avoid future accidents .

“I’m not fond of speed bumps , but I think there should be more signs indicating what the speed limit is , and maybe even lowering it , ” said one neighbor . “Because people are going as fast as they want.”

Even though they didn’t know the person who lost their life , residents say witnessing an accident so close never gets easier .

“Every accident is tragic,” Williamson said . “But having it so near your home-happening so many times-it really bothers you.”

News 6 spoke with family member of th e victim ’s brother-in-law , who preferred not to go on camera . He mentioned that they plan to hold memorial at th ec rash site for him .
