Environment Canada has lifted the tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings that affected a significant portion of southwestern Ontario for several hours on Thursday afternoon and into the evening.

Red-level tornado warnings were active for Clencoe, Chatham-Kent, and Rondeau Park during that time.

The tornado alerts were eventually canceled and switched to severe thunderstorm warnings, which have now also expired.

According to Environment Canada’s color-coding system, red warnings are uncommon and reserved for “very dangerous and possibly life-threatening weather” that could lead to “extreme damage and disruption.”

Yellow warnings indicate hazardous weather that may cause damage, disruption or health impacts. However, these impacts are considered moderate, localized, and/or short-term.
