London police report that they have taken a male suspect into custody following a shooting over the weekend that resulted in one man’s death and left another seriously injured in the Old East Village area of the city.
The police have not yet disclosed the name of the victim or detailed any charges against the suspect.
“Additional information regarding the arrested individual and charges will be shared as appropriate as the investigation continues,” police mentioned in a news release.
Officers responded to a 911 call about multiple gunshots in the 700-block of Dundas Street, near the Palace Theatre, shortly before 4 a. m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, they found two adult males who were both taken to the hospital.
One man succumbed to his injuries while the other remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
This marks London’s second homicide of 2026, occurring just across from where the city’s first murder took place near Dundas and Hewitt streets on January 12, which involved 45-year-old Brandon Christopher Jamieson Nichols. A London man, aged 38, has been charged with second-degree murder in that case.
Police have not confirmed whether these two incidents are connected.

“This is now our second [fatal incident] within two weeks and people are concerned; there’s fear among residents,” said Morrison, noting that several businesses have contacted him with worries.
“The only word I can use is disheartening. Our residents and businesses feel less safe than ever.”
Morrison mentioned he advised local businesses to remain alert; however, it’s tough when crimes happen late at night or early morning while shops are closed.
The police continue asking anyone with dash-cam footage or relevant information to come forward for assistance with their investigation.

OEV Businesses Feeling ‘More Unsafe Than Ever’
Residents and business owners in OEV are understandably shaken by these recent violent events in their community. “We’re all shocked and saddened to see what’s happening. It’s a hard thing to wake up and show up at the theatre, to see the police tape there and to know that something really bad has happened,” said Jeff Preston, chair of the board of directors for Palace Theatre. “This is an area where we’ve noticed an increase in troubling incidents lately. So I think we’re all worried about everyone’s safety here.” Local businesses are also feeling uneasy due to rising crime rates in their neighborhood, according to Kevin Morrison, head of OEV’s business improvement area.Source link
