A 34-year-old cyclist from Thames Centre lost his life after being hit by a vehicle east of London on Wednesday, according to the OPP.
Authorities reported that emergency services were dispatched to Richmond Street between Gore Road and Marion Street in Thames Centre just after 12:20 p. m. due to a collision involving a vehicle and a cyclist.
The cyclist was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries but unfortunately passed away later.
The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team arrived at the scene to aid in the investigation.
Richmond Street remained shut down between Marion Street and Gore Road as officers worked on their investigation.
“Obviously a tough day for everybody involved,” OPP Const. Jeff Hare said in a video posted on social media. “Our thoughts go out to the families and everybody else involved in today’s events.”
Police are urging anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to reach out to Middlesex County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
