Police have identified the driver connected to a fatal hit and run on Highway 401 that took place earlier this week.

The accident occurred just after 7 a. m. on Wednesday near Oxford Road 3.

A 42-year-old tow truck driver was assisting a stranded motorist when they were hit and killed.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) shared an image of the suspect vehicle, which is described as a blue commercial tractor and trailer covered with a black tarp. Police report that they have found the vehicle.

“I just want to say thank you, a sincere thank you to every one that provided information,” OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said in a video posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Sanchuk mentioned that further updates would come when more details become available.

“I want to take this time to offer my sincere condolences to all family members and friends who are affected by this tragedy. Everybody please, please make sure you take care. Stay safe, get home safe to your families.”
