The Ontario government and CN Rail have come to an Agreement-in-Principle for acquiring new land to build dedicated GO tracks along the Kitchener Line.

This agreement aligns with the upcoming addition of more GO train services on the Kitchener Line in November, which will introduce 18 new weekend trips between Bramalea GO and Union Station, as well as the first-ever weekend service to Kitchener.

As part of the Kitchener Extension Project; this Agreement-in-Principle marks another significant step towards establishing faster two-way, all-day services along the Line. The new project is expected to add 40km of track and will involve re-alignments, signal upgrades, bridge construction, and platform expansions throughout the corridor.

Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation, said:

Today, we’re taking two pivotal steps towards delivering two-way, all-day GO train service between Kitchener and Toronto.

Under Premier Ford’s leadership, our government is delivering the largest transit expansion in North America to tackle gridlock, keep workers on the job and support economic growth.

Once finished, the updated Kitchener Line plans to offer two-way, all-day services to Bramalea GO seven days a week; 30-minute two-way services to Mount Pleasant GO every day; extra trains during peak rush hours to Union Station and Mount Pleasant GO in the evenings; 60-minute two-way services to Kitchener GO daily; plus additional trains during peak rush hours to Union Station and Kitchener GO at night.

Starting November 23, 2025; GO Transit train services on the Kitchener Line will expand with 18 new weekend trips between Bramalea GO and Union Station. Four existing weekend trips will be extended from Mount Pleasant GO to Kitchener GO (offering weekend services to Kitchener for the first time); there will also be two new weekday trips between Bramalea GO and Union Station; extending two current weekday trips from Malton GO to Bramalea GO; along with one existing weekday trip being extended from Guelph Central GO to Kitchener GO.
