Driver Found Asleep on Highway Charged with Impairment

A 23-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving after police got several calls about a car stopped in the middle lane of a busy highway in Hamilton, Ont., late Thursday night.

According to a post by the police on social media, officers arrived at the westbound lanes of Highway 403 near Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway around 11 p. m. and found a man passed out behind the wheel.

After trying multiple times to wake him up without success, police broke a window to get inside and check on him.

The driver showed signs of being impaired and was arrested right there on the spot.

Breath tests later indicated his blood alcohol level was more than two and a half times over the legal limit, according to officials.

The Kitchener resident faced charges for operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs as well as having a blood alcohol concentration that exceeded the legal limit.

His driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle is impounded for seven days.
