The westbound lanes of Highway 401 were shut down in Cambridge after a crash on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in a motorcyclist being taken to the hospital.
The Ministry of Transportation announced a complete closure of the westbound lanes shortly before 5:45 p. m. between Hespeler Rd. and Speedsville Rd.
According to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt speaking with City News Kitchener, the incident involved a motorcyclist.
Ornge air ambulance was dispatched to the scene; however, a representative confirmed that no patients were transported.
Authorities later indicated that the accident involved both a motorcycle and an SUV, and thankfully, the motorcyclist’s injuries seemed to be non-life-threatening.
Four right lanes remained obstructed, and drivers were advised to expect significant delays for an extended period.
Westbound traffic quickly became congested on the 401 all the way back to the Cambridge ONroute and further due to the closure during peak commute hours in the late afternoon and early evening.
