Authorities report that they have charged a staff member from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board as part of a child luring and sexual exploitation investigation.
According to investigators, 50-year-old Michel Pleau was taken into custody on Friday after a coordinated effort involving police forces from Waterloo, Toronto, and Sudbury.
The accused faces several charges including possession, production, and distribution of child sexual assault material, invitation to sexual touching, and luring a minor under the age of 16.
Police have informed the school board where Pleau is employed about the arrest but believe that the incidents he is charged with do not involve any students from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board.
The school board’s website indicates that Pleau serves as the vice principal at St. Anne Catholic Elementary School in Kitchener.
“We understand that this news will be concerning to members of our community,” read a statement from the school board. “As this matter proceeds through the legal system, we will continue to cooperate fully with police and remain focused on supporting our school community.”
