A day after being set free, a high-risk offender in Kitchener was taken back into custody.
Regional police reported that Kevin Koehler, 60, was arrested on Oct. 17 after they received notifications that he might have violated his release conditions.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Offender Management Unit issued a public alert on Oct. 16, indicating that Koehler had been released into the Kitchener community after serving time for manslaughter, a crime he was convicted of in 2013.
According to authorities, Koehler is classified as a high-risk offender due to his “extensive” record of violent offenses, which include assault, assault with a weapon, criminal negligence causing death, and assaulting police officers. He also presents a significant risk to the public and has a high likelihood of reoffending.
He was subject to the following conditions:

- Notify immediately of any change in address
- No attempts to contact directly or indirectly with past victims or their family members or witnesses from the cases he was convicted
- A curfew requiring him to stay at home between 11:00 p. m. and 5:00 a. m.
- No purchase or consumption of alcoholic drinks or controlled substances unless prescribed by an Ontario physician.
