A 3.7 magnitude earthquake was detected by Earthquakes Canada near Orillia, Ont. on Tuesday night.
The U. S. Geological Survey registered the quake at a magnitude of 4.1.
No damage has been reported, and none is anticipated, according to Earthquakes Canada.
The quake occurred 23 kilometres ESE of Orillia and just under 100 kilometres north of Toronto at 10:59 p. m.
The website’s “Did you feel it?” feature received around 2,200 responses from people who felt the tremor, stretching as far west as Kitchener, east through Toronto, all the way to Belleville, and south down to Niagara Falls.
This region has experienced two earthquakes of similar size in the past 25 years.
Social media lit up with comments from folks saying that this quake was just another challenge for an area already facing severe snow and cold weather recently.
