Waterloo Regional Police say a high-risk arrest on Monday is linked to prolonged drug investigation in Kitchener.
A driver, who simply occurred to be travelling on Traynor Avenue, caught the dramatic takedown on sprint cam video round 5 p.m.
The video, which was later posted on Reddit, exhibits vans dashing down the road, then stopping immediately in entrance of an e-bike.
A loud bang is heard, adopted by a cloud of smoke.
Officers carrying tactical gear can then be seen leaping out of the vans and surrounding the driving force on the bottom.
Police stated the arrest was executed by their Drug and Firearms Unit and Emergency Response Crew.
“Officers had information that the individual who was under arrest may have had a firearm on hand,” stated Const. Chris Iden. “To ensure community safety, a high-risk arrest was completed.”
Police stated the 30-year-old man on the e-bike was carrying a reproduction gun, a big amount of medication and money.
He’s dealing with a number of weapons-related charges, in addition to possession of a managed substance for the aim of trafficking and 5 counts of breaching a courtroom order.
The big police response was mandatory, police stated.
“At the end of the day, what’s important is that everybody involved in this investigation and arrests were all safe,” Iden defined.
He added that operations, like Monday’s arrest, require cautious planning.
“The element of surprise is a huge factor in something, especially, like this. When somebody has a firearm, you know, we need to take surveillance and undercover to our advantage.”
