The Premier stated that this funding is part of the province’s strategy to support workers and communities during uncertain global economic times.

The Ontario government is introducing a new round of the Rural Ontario Development Program, pledging $20 million to boost jobs, infrastructure, and economic growth in rural areas.

This announcement was made at the 2026 Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference, with applications now open for rural municipalities, businesses, Indigenous groups, and non-profit organizations.

Premier Doug Ford mentioned that this funding is part of the province’s strategy to support workers and communities amid global economic uncertainty.

The program follows last week’s separate announcement of $700 million for water infrastructure improvements in 127 municipalities and First Nations communities. This funding comes through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, which now has a total of $4 billion allocated, including $875 million specifically for health and safety water projects.

ROMA, which represents rural interests within the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, states that this conference provides municipal leaders with an opportunity to engage directly with the province on key issues like housing, transportation, and healthcare.

Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Rob Flack emphasized that these investments are designed to keep workers employed and establish long-term stability in rural Ontario.
