Obituary for Winston Vinh – Kingston News

The youngest of four siblings, Winston was the second son of Khean Vinh and San Phan Heng. He was born on January 5th, 1988, in Kingston, Ontario, and is a cherished brother to Nariy Moscrop (Howard) and Bolpar Vinh-Doyle (Will). Sadly, he was predeceased by his older brother who lost his battle with illness at a young age before their parents came to Canada. Alongside his parents and sisters, Winston leaves behind many family members including nephews Max and Mikey, nieces Sally and Jessica, and extended relatives overseas.

Winston dedicated himself to the art and music scenes in Kingston. From late-night performances at The Toucan to numerous productions at the Thousand Islands Playhouse, he devoted his life to music. He supported countless bands and found happiness in doing what he loved most: playing music. Whether it was jamming with Funkyfrenz on Monday nights at The Toucan or grooving with The Big Phat Horn Band on Saturday nights at The RCHA Club-plus his latest gigs with The Wild Rose Orchestra-Winston’s musical style had no limits. He studied music at Humber College and returned home to share that knowledge with students and collaborators alike. His generous spirit meant that he shared his talents widely through various charitable recordings.

A public visitation will be held at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., on Wednesday, March 25th, 2026 from 2-5pm. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, March 26th, 2026 starting at 5pm at The Toucan. In accordance with the family’s wishes, there will be a private burial later on.

If you’d like to make a donation in memory of Winston, please consider supporting Joe’s Music Mill at joesmill. org. This local spot held a special place in his heart.

As ABBA said in Thanks For the Music: “Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing. Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing…I ask in all honesty, what would life be without a song.”
