The tragic death of a man in his 30s from Kingston, Ont., is now being treated as a homicide, with one individual taken into custody, according to local police.

Jayme Shawn Syring, 34, succumbed to his injuries at Kingston General Hospital on Tuesday, as stated in a press release from Kingston Police.

Syring was assaulted at a home on Princess Street close to Gardiners Road, police reported.

A 51-year-old man from Kingston was arrested Thursday with assistance from the street crime and drug enforcement teams. A search warrant was also carried out in the 100 block of Sutherland Drive, according to the release.

Kingston Police have not disclosed the name of the arrested man or any charges against him, even though he was set to appear in bail court on Friday.

Authorities mentioned they are still collecting evidence and confirmed that there’s no ongoing risk to public safety. They added that no one else was harmed during the incident.

A spokesperson told CBC they hope to provide more details soon.
