The Weather Network’s summer forecast for 2026 mentions that central and eastern Canada may “struggle to lock into place,” characterized by less sustained heat and more interruptions in weather patterns.
For Kingston and nearby areas, this means what meteorologists are calling a “noncommittal and inconsistent” season – one where warm periods develop but are frequently interrupted by cooler air and unstable weather.
“What that means for us is an unsettled summer, a changeable summer,” said Michael Carter, meteorology manager at The Weather Network. “You don’t really lock into one pattern for extended periods of time.”
The fluctuating conditions are linked to a quick shift from La Niña to El Niño – a natural climate cycle influenced by warming ocean waters in the equatorial Pacific. This transition alters global atmospheric circulation patterns like jet streams which affect storm paths and temperature trends across North America.
