Southern Ontario is bracing for extremely cold temperatures and a potential snowstorm this weekend.

This might be the perfect time to stay indoors and enjoy a good book.

The Weather Network is keeping an eye on a “major winter storm” that’s expected to impact the U. S., with models indicating it could spread into parts of southern Ontario, bringing heavy snowfall on Sunday. Environment and Climate Change Canada also mentions the possibility of “significant snow on Sunday.”

At the same time, bitterly cold temperatures are anticipated throughout both days.

According to Environment Canada, this weekend will see the coldest air of the season along with very low wind chills.

Friday night could see temperatures drop to -26 C in some areas of the Greater Toronto Area.

On Saturday, Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington, Oakville, and Durham Region can expect a high of -15 C and a low of -22 C under sunny skies, according to Environment Canada. Hamilton and the Niagara Region will remain around -16 C throughout the day.

The Weather Network warns that wind chills could make it feel as cold as -29 C in the GTA on Saturday morning.

Sunday’s forecast includes a high near -8 C with periods of snow expected. The temperature may drop to -14 C later in the evening. With wind chill factored in, it could feel like -19 C, based on information from the Weather Network.

The Weather Network also predicts snowfall amounts exceeding 30 centimeters from localized lake-effect storms in the GTA.
