cars and other vehicles marking a long-awaited completion that faced challenges from international relations. The family members of Gordie Howe, the hockey star after whom the bridge is named were among those who first crossed over to reach Detroit from Windsor, U. S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., rodea motorcycle while Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer drove her Ford Mustang withthe top down. p > Article continues below this ad p > The six-lane bridge built by Canada at a costof $6.4 billion Canadian offersa more affordable option compared to the privately owned Ambassador Bridge which previously held monopolyon large trucks transporting goods worth billions betweenthe two countries especially benefitingthe auto sector. p > “There are thousands of trucks that go over” daily,” said Kevin Ketels, a business professor teaching supply chain managementat Wayne State University. p > Jim Pereira who transported auto partsfor Ontario-based Onfreight Logisticswas acknowledgedas the firsttrucker to reach Detroit.
