No injuries reported as several Fort Erie-bound lanes shut for much of Sunday

Two individuals were taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle accident involving an Ontario Provincial Police cruiser on Queen Elizabeth Way in Hamilton on Sunday.

The OPP reported that the incident occurred just before 2 p. m. on the QEW at Centennial Pkwy., involving their cruiser.

Authorities mentioned multiple vehicles were part of this crash, with significant damage noted on the front end of the OPP cruiser. Another vehicle showed damage on its side and rear end.}>

No severe injuries were recorded; those hospitalized were taken as a precaution, according to OPP officials.

Reporter witnessed crash

A reporter for observed part of this incident from one of Toronto-bound lanes along QEW and noted that emergency lights were activated when it collided with a white SUV’s rear end.

The police indicated several Fort Erie-bound lanes near Centennial were closed for most of Sunday due to this incident leading to significant traffic delays. The lanes reopened shortly after six p. m., according to OPP reports.

No immediate information was available regarding what caused this collision.

Partial road closures for area

The accident took place while Niagara Region-bound lanes of Burlington Bay Skyway had partial closures for bridge deck rehabilitation work ongoing. One middle lane was blocked off from Friday evening until Monday morning between ten p. m. and five a. m.

Meanwhile , ramp access from Eastport Dr.’s collector lanes towards Burlington Skyway faced overnight closures both Friday into Saturday as well as again starting Sunday at ten p. m till Monday morning at five. a. m. to facilitate moving temporary barrier walls. During these closures , two through-lanes remained open along QEW while one lane accessing Burlington Skyway was made available via Eastport collector lanes. All ramps linking Northshore Blvd interchange stayed open while Eastport served as an alternate route allowing full access back onto Niagara Region-bound QEW.
