Hamilton LRT – Latest Updates

About Light Rail Transit

Light Rail Transit is a transport system using electric-powered light rail vehicles that run on tracks separated from other traffic.

Light rail transit is:

Accessible: Level boarding with no steps or ramps Fast and reliable: since it’s separate from regular traffic, LRT avoids congestion Integrated with HSR: fares will be set by the City and will work together with existing HSR service for smooth transfers Multi-modal: bikes will be allowed in vehicles during off-peak times, and cycling facilities will be included along and near the corridor

Infrastructure benefits and savings:

The Hamilton LRT project involves a major investment in City infrastructure. Over the 14-kilometre route, much of the current municipal infrastructure and private utilities will be upgraded. This includes, but isn’t limited to, roads, sidewalks, bridges, watermains, sewers, electrical distribution (hydro), telecommunications, natural gas lines, traffic control signals and streetlights.

Infrastructure improvements for LRT: 14 km of sewer pipe replaced, 16 km of watermain pipe replaced, 14 km of road reconstruction, 28 km of sidewalk replaced and upgraded to AODA standard, 62 traffic signals replaced and upgraded with new technology.
