Police have reported a “cybersecurity compromise” involving the Crime Stoppers tip software in Hamilton.
The Hamilton Police Service indicated that the breach affected Navigate360, which is a tip management software provider working with the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association.
“Hamilton Police have received information from Crime Stoppers of Hamilton indicating that a breach of its information has occurred,” police stated in a release on Wednesday.
Investigators have not revealed when the breach happened.
Authorities say that Crime Stoppers of Hamilton has asked Navigate360 for a comprehensive report “to determine the extent of the breach.” They also mentioned that Navigate360 assured them that the system “is secure and that additional security measures have been implemented,” according to police.
According to police, the Crime Stoppers software operates independently and outside of the internal systems used by the Hamilton Police Service.
