Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that they were investigating an incident at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area on Thursday.

Wellington County OPP received a call around 3 p. m. Thursday regarding a complaint about weapons.

In an email to 570 News Radio on Friday morning, OPP confirmed that it involved a pellet gun and stated there was no danger to the public.

“As a response, and out of an abundance of caution, nearby campers and guests were evacuated out of the immediate area, and police began their investigation, alongside Guelph Lake Conservation Staff,” said OPP.

The pellet gun was reportedly being used by a camper who was shooting at pop cans on their campsite.

“The camper was also found to be intoxicated, and was then trespassed from the property as a result of an alcohol ban on the premises.”

No one was injured.

The conservation area reopened shortly after 5 p. m. Thursday.
