A 36-year-old man with a history of violence was released from custody after admitting guilt, only to be re-arrested shortly after for not following his conditions.
According to the Guelph Police Service, Medhani Yohans was taken back into custody within two hours of leaving court on Monday. Police noted that he had been ordered to avoid a specific address.
Authorities issued a warning about his temporary release because he is considered a danger to others, especially women, given his violent track record that includes two sexual assaults against strangers. He had been released on February 2 after pleading guilty to violating his probation.
Now, he faces another charge for breaching probation due to this latest arrest. He’s scheduled to appear in court on February 3.
This marks the fourth time Yohans has been let out of custody. In July 2025, he was arrested again less than a day after breaking his probation terms.
In August 2024, police in Toronto released him but then re-arrested him for failing to report back to Guelph authorities.
In March 2025, he was freed once more and later seen on campus at the University of Guelph. He got re-arrested nine days later on March 10 for violating a court order by being near an address he wasn’t supposed to visit.
