A 49-year-old cyclist has died after being struck by a Toyota Prius on Wellington Road 86, just north of Guelph, on Sunday evening.

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police report that officers and paramedics were dispatched to the area between Wellington Road 30 and Wellington Road 51/Ariss Valley Road at 6:15 p.m. Sunday due to reports of an accident.

The man, aged 49, was declared dead at the scene.

The passengers in the Toyota Prius were unharmed.

Police are still looking into the matter and urge anyone with information or dashcam footage from around the time of the incident to reach out to them or Crime Stoppers.

Wellington Road 86 transitions into Elmira Road N. as it enters Guelph. Earlier in August, a 37-year-old man cycling near Elmira Road N. and Massey Road lost his life when a garbage truck hit him.

A local man, also aged 37, has been charged with careless driving resulting in death in that case.
