A 40-year-old man from Toronto has passed away after a three-vehicle crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) in Burlington on Sunday evening, confirmed the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The accident took place around 6:45 p. m. in the eastbound lanes of the QEW close to Walkers Line. According to OPP’s Highway Safety Division, it seems a medical emergency involving one of the drivers caused the collision.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and rushed the man – who was the only person in his vehicle – to a local hospital in critical condition. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead.
The drivers in the other two vehicles were unharmed and stayed at the location to help with the investigation.
Authorities shut down parts of the highway and several ramps for about two hours for cleanup and an investigation into what happened.
While inquiries are still ongoing, officials say they don’t expect any charges at this time.
If anyone has information or dashcam footage related to this incident, they’re encouraged to reach out to the Burlington OPP detachment.
