Burlington has become a hotspot for lottery winners, thanks to the number of residents striking it rich lately.

For example, two individuals have recently claimed substantial prizes.

We just don’t know who they are.

In what seems like a policy shift, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has only released the first names and middle initials of the latest winners. Attempts to get a comment from OLG were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Douglas W. from Burlington has won a total of $91,508.70 by playing Poker Lotto All in. His winnings came in two installments, with $5,000 of that amount coming from the instant part of the game.

The 67-year-old truck driver found out about his big win while at a gas station.

“The clerk told me I was a big winner, and I was pretty calm and collected,” he said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto collecting his prize.

Initially, Douglas kept his win a secret. “My coworkers were outside at the gas station, but I wanted to wait until I got home to tell my wife.”

When he finally broke the news to her, she couldn’t believe it. “She said, ‘Yeah, right! Stuff like that never happens to people like us!’” Douglas remembered. “I replied, ‘Well, it did!’ I was smiling from ear to ear!”

With his newfound fortune, Douglas plans to make some renovations at both his home and cottage and buy a new boat. “I’d like one just big enough to make fishing more comfortable,” he shared.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shell on Highway 25 in Milton.

The second major winner from Burlington is Philip T., who is now $77,777 richer after winning with Instant Diamond 7s (Game #2556).

Philip is a 70-year-old retiree who’s been playing the lottery with OLG for over 30 years; this is his first significant win.

“I’ve played Diamond 7s several times – I enjoy trying new instant games,” he mentioned. “When I scratched my ticket and saw I had uncovered the top prize, I couldn’t believe it. It was spectacular!”

With his winnings, Philip is thinking about investing as well as sharing some with his children.

“It feels great to be a winner,” he stated.

This winning ticket was bought at L & I Variety on Guelph Line in Burlington.
