The province is spending $134 million to purchase 5 new police helicopters, which they are saying can even assist maintain roads secure from road racers and impaired drivers

The Ontario authorities is popping to the skies to assist forestall violent carjackings within the Higher Toronto Space and Ottawa.

The province is spending $134 million to purchase 5 new police helicopters, which they are saying can even assist maintain roads secure from road racers and impaired drivers.

The Ontario Provincial Police will get two new H135 helicopters to help Ottawa and Toronto Police Companies, whereas three helicopters shall be procured, owned and operated by Durham, Halton and Peel Regional Police Companies.

“Our government is making the necessary investments to ensure that police services have the tools and resources they need to crack down on auto theft and car thieves,” stated Premier Doug Ford in a information launch. 

“From implementing new technologies and innovative policing strategies to tackling guns and gangs and getting more boots on the ground, we’ll do whatever it takes to put the criminals behind bars and keep our communities safe.”

Halton Police stated on X that it is  “excited to be a part of the brand new Joint Air Help Unit introduced this morning. The addition of those eyes within the sky will improve our capacity to combat crime and assist guarantee the protection of these we serve.”

Solicitor Basic Michael Kerzner says a automobile is stolen each 14 minutes in Ontario.

“Criminal networks have become more sophisticated, but so have we,” he stated. 

“These helicopters shall be a crucial instrument in serving to police keep one step forward of the criminals who’re stealing vehicles and committing crimes on our streets.”

The funding for the brand new helicopters was introduced in Ontario’s 2024 Finances.
