The first acts for the Lakeshore Music & Arts Festival’s debut lineup have been announced.
This two-day event – taking place on June 20 and 21 – will feature indie pop group Walk off the Earth, rock band The Trews from Nova Scotia, neo-soul artist Katie Tupper, and Ontario’s The Dirty Nil performing at Spencer Smith Park along Burlington’s waterfront.
This is one of the first reveals from the festival run by MRG Live, which has taken over from the long-standing four-day Sound of Music Festival that had to cancel after 40 years due to financial issues.
Walk off the Earth will be returning to their roots, showcasing their hits from the 2010s like “Red Hands,” which reached No. 9 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, marking it as their top charting single in Canada. Meanwhile, The Trews are gaining traction with their current Mainstream Rock hit “Carolina.” Tupper is riding high after several sold-out shows supporting her debut album, Greyhound, while The Dirty Nil released their well-received fifth studio album, The Lash, last year.
After this initial wave of artists revealed, over 30 more performers will be added to the lineup soon.
An early concept shared in a brief back in February outlined that there would be three stages at the festival. This includes a main performance stage featuring local musicians across various genres and a “notable Canadian headliner” wrapping up each night.
A community stage will focus on family-friendly and youth-centered programming alongside the Brant Street stage showcasing city-based musicians, emerging talent, and Indigenous artists.
The Lakeshore Music & Arts Festival plans to keep Sound of Music’s free ticket model but will also offer paid VIP options to enhance attendee experiences. According to the brief, this VIP area includes premium seating as well as exclusive food and drink choices, merchandise opportunities, and meet-and-greet sessions with artists.
Besides music acts, this multi-stage festival will also include a downtown street fair spotlighting artisans, food vendors and activities for families.
