A 23-year-old woman has been taken into custody after a newborn was discovered dead in Brampton on Sunday, according to Peel police.

The woman faces charges for hiding the body of a child following birth, stated Det. Sgt. Matthew Miller.

Authorities were called to the vicinity of Kennedy Road N. and Williams Parkway just before 8:30 p. m. on Sunday, as reported by Peel police in a message posted on X. Officers found the infant deceased inside a residence in the area.

The woman has received medical care while in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing, said Miller.

“Incidents of this nature are deeply disturbing,” Miller remarked, noting that officers involved are “being provided with appropriate mental support as they continue to process the impact of this call.”

Investigators are urging anyone with additional information to reach out to the Special Victims Unit or submit an anonymous tip through Peel Crime Stoppers.

Miller indicated that police will conduct a search of the home on Monday with assistance from Peel police’s forensics unit.
