A man discovered dead in a culvert in Hamilton’s Stoney Creek area on Wednesday has been identified by authorities as Taranpreet Singh Sidhu.
Sidhu, who was 29 years old, moved to Canada from India in 2022 and worked as a truck driver in Brampton, according to a Hamilton police news release on Thursday. He had previously lived in Halifax.
The details surrounding Sidhu’s death are still being looked into. Police mentioned they believe Sidhu “was not killed in the area where he was found.”
Emergency services were alerted to a location near the north end of Fruitland Road around 8:15 a. m. ET after reports came in about an unresponsive individual who was declared dead at the scene.
The Hamilton Police Service stated that it is collaborating closely with Peel Regional Police as part of the homicide inquiry.
Investigators have conducted a video canvass where Sidhu’s body was located and are speaking with potential witnesses.
“While detectives continue to pursue all investigative avenues, they are not prepared to release information regarding the vehicle believed to have been used to transport Mr. Sidhu,” the police release said.
No cause of death has been disclosed at this moment.
Authorities are urging anyone who interacted with Sidhu before his death to reach out to them.
