A truck driver from Brampton is said to have removed his ankle monitor and disappeared before a scheduled sentencing for drug smuggling.

Charanpreet Singh, 29, was convicted of bringing cocaine (55 kilograms) and heroin (five kilograms) into Canada via the Blue Water Bridge near Sarnia on April 8, 2022, according to court documents.

On February 3 this year, Singh was granted bail with an ankle monitor and was required to stay at his sister’s house in Brampton.

However, he failed to appear for his sentencing set for June 24 at a Sarnia courthouse.

“He removed his ankle monitor and did not show up for his court date,” a Peel Regional Police spokesperson informed INsauga. com.

As of Friday morning, there is currently an active warrant out for Charanpreet Singh, and he remains at large, according to the spokesperson.

His current whereabouts are unknown.

The sentencing hearing proceeded without Singh present, resulting in a imposed sentence of 15 years, as reported by the .

On February 3, the court turned down a request to revoke bail. The judge stated that there “is no evidence to suggest that Mr. Singh is a flight risk. In particular, I note that his wife and child are Canadian citizens. The Crown does not suggest he is a flight risk.”

Singh is originally from India and held permanent resident status in Canada. He is married with one child; his wife is a Canadian citizen and their child was born in Canada.
