A person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after an assault occurred north of Brampton.

The incident took place shortly after 8 p. m. on Monday outside a business located at the intersection of King Street West and Queen Street North in Caledon’s Bolton community, according to the OPP.

Authorities reported that one victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition following the event. No information regarding the victim’s age or gender has been released.

While investigators mentioned there were “numerous witnesses” present when the assault happened, they are urging anyone who saw what occurred and hasn’t spoken to officers yet to step forward.

Police have identified a suspect and announced that a 32-year-old man from Etobicoke was arrested and charged on Tuesday.

The OPP states that Oleh Milchenko, 32, from Etobicoke has been charged with aggravated assault.

The suspect is being held in custody awaiting a bail hearing set for Tuesday in Orangeville; however, news of his arrest wasn’t shared by the OPP until Wednesday.

According to Canada’s Criminal Code, aggravated assault happens when someone “wounds, maims, disfigures or endangers the life” of another person. This offense can lead to a prison sentence of up to fourteen years.

If you have any information about this incident, you can reach out to the Caledon OPP by calling 1-888-310-1122 and referencing occurrence number E261227001.
