Police have suspended a truck driver from Caledon and charged a Brampton company following a traffic stop in northeastern Ontario.

The incident took place on May 6, when the OPP reported that officers with the James Bay detachment stopped a truck in Cochrane, about 105 kilometres northeast of Timmins.

Authorities stopped the truck “after observing equipment deficiencies and driving-related concerns,” stating that the driver had consumed alcohol.

A breath test showed the driver’s blood alcohol concentration was above zero, leading to charges against the 45-year-old driver from Caledon for operating a commercial motor vehicle with major defects, failing to report defects in the daily inspection report, and having an improper number plate light.

A Brampton-based company was also charged for failing to ensure performance standards were met and not conducting daily inspections properly.

According to police, the driver received a three-day license suspension as well.

“Under Ontario law, commercial motor vehicle drivers are subject to a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol,” stated the OPP.

If you see someone who appears to be impaired or driving unsafely, you can report it to police by calling 911 when it’s safe. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or through www. ontariocrimestoppers. ca.

When you reach out to Crime Stoppers, you remain anonymous, won’t have to testify, and could earn up to a $2,000 reward.
