On Thursday, MPP Brian Saunderson joined Camphill Communities Ontario and Burro’d Theatre for a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and to acknowledge the significance of an $89,100 seed grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The one-year grant, awarded in 2025, aims to help Camphill make professional theatre and inclusive arts programs easier to access for individuals of all abilities. “Provincial investments like this help bring new experiences and opportunities to communities across the region,” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “Camphill Communities Ontario has a long history of enriching the lives of the people it serves, and I am pleased to see this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant support their continued work. Congratulations to Camphill and Burro’d Theatre on bringing this creative project to life.” Working alongside Burro’d Theatre, Camphill is putting on a professional outdoor version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream on the grounds of Novalis Hall. This production includes public programming aimed at inviting adults with developmental disabilities, local community members, and those who might not usually have access to live theatre. The project features the ‘Midsummer Makers’ workshop series that provides accessible chances for individuals with various abilities to engage with Shakespearean text, movement, and design. The ‘Shakespeare in the Village’ celebration will further invite everyone in the community to connect through theatre, music, food, crafts, and interactive activities. “We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy, creativity and connection that the arts can bring,” said Larry Palmer, executive director of Camphill Communities Ontario. “This grant has helped us create a professional theatre experience where people of all abilities feel welcome, included and connected.” Ca mph ill Communities Ontario is an accredited not-for-profit organization supporting adults with developmental disabilities in Simcoe County.
