Sadlon was a well-respected business owner in Barrie, having started Paul Sadlon Motors on Bayfield Street, his car dealership, in 1971.

Well-known Barrie businessman and philanthropist Paul Sadlon Sr. has passed away. He was 93.

The announcement of his passing came before tonight’s Ontario Hockey League game featuring the Barrie Colts against the London Knights.

Those present at Sadlon Arena, the sports venue named after him, reported that his death was displayed on the scoreboard and shared with the audience, followed by a moment of silence.

Sadlon had been a prominent figure in Barrie’s business community for years, launching Paul Sadlon Motors on Bayfield Street in 1971.

The former Barrie Molson Centre was renamed Sadlon Arena after city council agreed to a 10-year naming rights deal worth over $1.7 million.

He and his family played “an integral part” in making the Sadlon Centre for Health, Wellness and Sciences at Georgian College a reality through their $2-million donation in 2011, as noted by the school at that time.

He also contributed to many local causes and events via his dealership and supported organizations such as the Simcoe County Newcomer Recognition Awards, Barrie Pride, Bradford Lion’s Club, and Bradford West Gwillimbury Library and Cultural Centre.
