The boy was discovered deceased inside his home in Barrie at about 3 p. m. on New Year’s Eve while officers were conducting a wellness check, according to a news release from Barrie police.
The mother, who is 47 years old, was also present at the Bayview Drive residence and was taken to the hospital, said Jason Fearon, staff sergeant with Barrie Police Service, in a video released Thursday.
On Tuesday, following her medical evaluation, police formally charged her with first-degree murder, Fearon stated.
The major crime unit along with forensic identification unit are continuing their investigation, according to Fearon.
“Due to the nature of the incident and to respect the privacy of the family involved, updates will only be provided as the investigation permits,” he noted in the video.
