On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Simcoe County Greenbelt Coalition (SCGC) hosted its annual Mates Celebration fundraising gala on the Basic John Hayter Southshore Neighborhood Centre in Barrie.

Neighborhood members from throughout the county gathered to lift over $40,000 in assist of SCGC’s mission to guard and develop the Greenbelt, promote sensible planning, and advocate for sustainable pure useful resource use.

“We exceeded our fundraising goal for this event,” mentioned Margaret Prophet, SCGC’s govt director. “The unbelievable assist from the neighborhood, and sponsors like Superior Residence Healthcare, The Roost Vineyard, and WinThinking, who gave a further $9,200 in-kind contributions, reveals how deeply folks worth Ontario’s pure belongings.

“These assets are important to our high quality of life, and SCGC is dedicated to making sure they continue to be wholesome and resilient for future generations.”

The night’s highlights included a gap and shutting by Indigenous leaders Myiingan Minonaakwhe and Heather McIntyre, performances by musicians Lily Frost and Coco Love Alcorn, dwell portray by Cathy Boyd — whose two canvases had been auctioned in a silent bidding course of — and regionally produced wine and quinoa beer. Visitors additionally loved partaking on-stage interviews, together with one with former Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne on the subject of girls in politics, and a dwell video name with celebrated writer Margaret Atwood.
